The state of Michigan has a lot of State House seats up for grabs this election year and many of these seats could be decided by those who don't show up to vote in August. While the Democrats in the state of Michigan hold a slim majority in the 110 State House, they could end up losing many seats that some incumbents are in and some term limited representatives currently hold. Therefore the Michigan State House is up for grabs, more than it was in 2006 perhaps. Both the Michigan Democratic and Republcian Party are looking at some key races in the state as what many could swing disticts.
While many of these districts went Democratic in 2006 after being Republican for so long, the Republican Party are hoping that with Senator John McCain on the ballot in November, it could help them regain some of this districts. While at the same time, the Obama factor in November could play a major role in some state House races in November. Nonetheless, many close primary races between incumbents who currently hold seats could be affected by voter apathy in August though. If many voters don't come out in August to vote for certain candidates particularly incumbents and other strong Democratic candidates than some weak Democratic candidates could end up winning primaries in some of these pre-dominately Republican districts currently held by Democrats that could swing back Republican if the right Democratic candidate is not running against whomever the Republicans have running in these districts.
Also some of these districts that predominately Democratic or that whave been Democratic for the last 6 years, have the possibility of swinging Republican due to Michigan's ailing economy and last year tax heights on small businesses. The Republican Party in the state of Michigan see the State House races as an opportunity to take back the state House from Democrats and perhaps start changing Michigan around in the way that it has needed the last two years. Also many Republican candidates feel that voter apathy in August will not affect their races as much as they will affect Democratic races but they are looking forward to the General election in November. In fact many Republican candidates say that since Republican Presidential candidate John McCain is not like typical conservative Republican candidates and with Michigan's current economic woes under a Democrat lead Governor and two Democratic U.S. Senators, it is clear that Michigan voters want help and that's what many Republicans have to offer voters when campaigning.
Voters are going to make a lot of tough decisions in not only August but November because while Governor Jennifer Granholm has been in Lansing for almost 6 years, it is unfair to blame her for all the wrongs that taking place in Michigan since for the first 4 years, she had to fight against a Republican controlled House and Seante. Then the last two years, her and the Democratic controlled House have had to make major cutbacks and raise taxes in order to balance Michigan's budget. However despite having a slim control of Michigan's State House, many bills passed in the house have fallen on death ear once they reach the Republican controlled Senate. So with a larger majority in the House and perhaps a slim majority in the State Senate than Granholm could finally start to make some significant changes that the Republican Party in the state of Michigan has blocked her from doing. Time will tell all but the best thing right now is go out and vote in the August primaries on the 5th if you are currently registered to vote. If you're not registered than get registered so you can vote in November's General election.
Every election is important so make a difference every time an election comes up.
