The war on our youth has taken a new swing tonight, it is in a positive direction as many cities like the city of Flint, Michigan are trying to fight the saggy pants issue that plague many of our youth and is a symbol of gang violence. While some youth believe that low hanging pants or saggy pants is a fashion trend and it is cool, many in the community feel it is a nuisance and it is indecent exposure. Many elders feel that seeing the underwear of many youth is inappropriate.
That's why the new city ordinance or law to take effect in Flint, Michigan is aimed at cutting down on the saggy pants issue. It is aimed toward deterring many youth from wearing their pants below their waist while at the same type cleaning up the streets of Flint from gang violence and trouble makers that plague the once prosperous city. However, Flint is not the only city in America who is trying to fight the saggy pants problem that some youth call cool. The saggy pants issue is not by any stretch of the imagination cool or sexy but it shows a lack of no sense from our youth.
Our youth today need guidance and that is why I encourage all parents to not just accept allow their children to wear their pants below their waist in an attempt to be cool cause what does cool get them. Does cool get them get grades? Does cool get them into college? Does cool get them scholarships? Does cool get them the job they seek and want? Does cool get them into Graduate or Law school? The answer is no and while an occasional few might slip through the cracks and get any of what I mentioned by being cool, they don't last long because nobody wants to see their pants below their waist.
A young man constantly grabbing to pull his pants up is not cool and no employee, scholarship committee, or school wants to see that. That's why when I hear youth particularly young ladies talk about seeing the underwear of males, I quickly become enraged. I find that to be so silly. No one should know what type of underwear anyone wears unless they are sleeping with that and that's why some things should be private. Clearly the crack down on saggy pants is not just a Flint issue but it is an American issue. Our young males need to know that wearing saggy pants is for prisoners who can't wear belts.
However our young man on the streets who have pants, don't want to wear the belt correctly so that it keeps their pants up. Therefore I am with one parent advocate who says that if our youth don't want to wear their pants up than they should do service for it. Give our youth more responsibility to serve the community. First offenders of saggy pants should be required to do 500 hours of community service in their communities. Our youth need to give back to their neighborhoods and that is why I am all for not putting them in jail but we need to have them perform service hours for indecent exposure.
The saggy pants epidemic has been going on for years but now real solutions are being offered and I applaud those who are making an effort to change it. I hope real progress is mad and that police officers enact this law properly and fairly cause if it is done right, than many youth will find themselves performing hundreds of thousands of countless service hours that will teach them responsibility, accountability and service to mankind while teaching the ultimate responsibility of wearing their pants properly.
