Fear mongering is the new wave of getting legislation to pass in America’s federal government. Much of this legislation that is passed does more harm than good for us the American people. However many of us who fight against legislation that is bad or harmful to us the American people are drained out by the fear mongering tactics that our politicians and even some in the media use. In fact they use fear mongering to keep the voices of the wise and intellectual drained out because if the American people hear the truth than it could start a revolt in the country. That’s why fear mongers use words such as dangerous, hazardous, greater harm, terrorist, terrorism, depression, catastrophe, disaster and many other words that are seen as threatening to the American people. By using these words, the fear mongers hope the American people will be too fearful and terrified to want anything else besides what their politicians are telling them they need.
Think about it people, the war on terror was not simply a war to rid the world of our enemies but it was a war to terrify us into believing that anything our government does will make us safer than we were before 9/11. However if you really think about it, while our airports are safer to a degree and we have not had another attack on American soil that doesn’t mean that we are safer than we were before 9/11. Our borders are not more secure than they were before 9/11 or on 9/11 and the reality is that if a terrorist wanted to attack us again, they could seek in through Mexico like the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants do every year. The war on terror was a part of the fear mongering that stripped us of many of our civil liberties that we cherished so greatly.
Think about it for a moment, for many of you who are not familiar with the FISA bill that was reauthorized into law last June that gives the federal government the right to access our cell phone records without having a warrant. The FISA bill was first passed a little bit after 9/11; it stripped us as Americans from a right to privacy. However the FISA bill was not perfect at first because it was illegal for our cell phone records to be turned over to the federal government without a warrant or our permission. So many cell phone companies were participating in an illegal program and when it was discovered that cell phone records were being turned over illegally that’s when thousands of lawsuits across America took place.
Former President George W. Bush and his administration said the reauthorization of FISA with revisions preventing lawsuits against those phone companies that work with the government is necessary to fight the war on terror. Thus when the law was reauthorized, it forced those thousands of lawsuits to be stopped and at the same time, it made it legal for cellular phone companies to turn our phone records over to the government from our permission and without a warrant. Even President Barack Obama who promised to fight and vote against FISA while on the campaign trail but once he was the Democratic Presidential nominee, he voted for the FISA bill.
So with the passage of legislation such as FISA and other tactics used regarding the passage of TARP which is regarded as the bank bailout, it is clear that our government believes in fear mongering rather than common sense. Think about it, we were told that if we don’t bail out the banks, our economy would fail and many people would be out of jobs. However as we can see nearly 5 months later after TARP was passed that our economy is failing and many people are continuing to lose their jobs. Now remember our federal government was telling us that we needed to act now and we needed to act swiftly in order to deal with the conditions we are facing. In fact our federal government said that if TARP doesn’t pass than our economy would go into a deep long depression that would be harder to get out of than what we are currently facing.
Do those words sound familiar? Just look at the words President Obama and others have used in describing our economic conditions. President Obama and others have used words such as dire straits, economic free fall and borderline depression. In fact President Obama has said that if we don’t act now and act swiftly than our economy will get worse and will become much harder to fix. At the same time, President Obama and others have said we need to do something but they have also said that this plan will not solve the economy alone. We as the American people should be asking ourselves why we are rushing to spend billions of dollars on our economy when it didn’t help the economy the first time. If the quote unquote stimulus package won’t fix the economy alone than why does it have to be so big? This is the fear mongering tactic at its best. The fear mongering warriors don’t want us the American people to think because it is when we think that it slows up the process of legislation that they want to pass.
Therefore the fear mongering warriors want us the American people to understand that thinking is not necessary but action is a necessity. Swift action is of great importance and that is the rationale of the fear mongering warriors. Fear mongering warriors play on the American fears that we are scared to death that if nothing is done soon and if something isn’t done quickly than we will see our economy get worst. Is this the tactic that we as the American people are comfortable with? Fear mongering is running amuck and our politicians love their tactics so much that they know we the American people will not recognize it. Well at least they hope we won’t but the truth is that fear mongering is the reason why we are in the conditions we are in today. For 8 years we ignored our social and economic conditions in America and paid more attention to our security from terrorists’ attacks.
Now as we pay attention to our social and economic conditions for the next 4 years, it seems we are going to ignore our future for temporary fixes that are not permanent and long term as well not in the best interest of the future of America. This is what fear mongering does to us as a people. Fear makes people care more about today and less about tomorrow. Therefore when our politicians use these fear mongering tactics against us, they are playing on our emotions that lead us to think irrationally while at the same time forcing us to react with emotions rather than common sense.
This is the era that we are facing and the conditions that we are dealing with. Fear mongering must be stopped and must be dealt with correctly. We can’t continue to fear and we can’t be scared of our future. In fact the only thing we should fear as a people is fear itself. Therefore if we don’t fear the notion of being scared and fearful than we shouldn’t fear the ideas that another terrorist attack might happen if we don’t do this, our economy might get worse if we don’t spend money here and all the other notions of cause & effect that play on our emotions. Fear mongering must be stopped and it must be rooted out by any means necessary.
DON’T LET FEAR BE OUR DOOM!
STOP FEAR MONGERING NOW & FOREVER!
STAND UP AND BE COURAGEOUS NOT FEARFUL!
