No matter how one looks at the debate, being young or old has its advantages and disadvantages. Neither one however makes the other better or greater than the other. It is all about one’s preference when it comes to choosing experience vs. change, young vs. old, or seasoned vs. inexperience. No matter which one, you prefer, it is clear that in this society there is still disrespect between the generations.
This generational gap has led many of us to think that either older is better or younger is greater when in reality both are good. It is clear that being older has it benefits such as wisdom and experience that only with age that someone can gain at times. However being younger has its advantages in its own right such as an abundance of energy and a willingness to gain more knowledge as well as tech-savviness now days.
Being young or old has it perks but in our society we try to demonize or destroy one over the other. This is done by many of us because we prefer lifting one group above the other in order to make our group feel stronger or better. The reality is that no group is better or greater than the other. In fact the old was once young and the young will soon be old so did that mean when the old was young, they were not better than their predecessors. Does this mean that when the young become old that they will not be greater than their successors once they become old?
What does all of this mean when in society to us as society when we literally tear down one another in order to make the group we belong sound better than the other? Older does not mean better and will never mean better. Younger does not mean greater and will never mean greater. Until we understand that as a society, we will continue to be fighting one another instead of uplifting one another to newer and greater heights.
This is nothing new to many us who have tried to merge the young and the old in order to help both sides see the error of their ways. For many of us who have been stuck in our ways and refuse to try to understand the other side, need to understand that the survival of our society depends on us coming together. This is not the time to continue to see the young act arrogant and the old act like know it all’s. In fact this is the time for both the young and old to reflect on their similarities as mentioned in THE PAST MEETS THE PRESENT TO CHANGE THE FUTURE in order to see how both generations can help one another. This is a time for the young and old to work to bridge the gap in their differences in order to build a better future for all.
No matter which generation you belong to, it is clear that we all can learn from one another. The old must be willing to accept the young into the ranks of leadership while the young must be willing to earn their right to lead and stop expecting to be leaders. All leadership positions are earned and like the old, they earned their strips so the young need to understand that they must earn theirs. At the same time though, the old must be receptive of new ideas and ways of doing things because in the times are changing so with the times, the old can’t be stuck in their same thought processes as their predecessors did.
This is the only way, the future will be bright. When people realize that older is not better and younger is not greater than our society can finally start to live up to its potential. When people stop using age to divide us and start using it to unite us than our society will be able to build a brighter future. When people understand that they were once young and that they will soon be old so learn to get along than our society cannot become peaceful.
Older is not better. Younger is not greater. However old and young can be better and greater together. That is the point where we need to get in society. Where the young is better and the old is greater as well as the old is better and the young is greater. That’s the point where our society needs to get where together the young and old are better and greater as one. Until that point is realized than older is not better and younger is not greater.
