The endless and senseless violence on the streets of Chicago is really getting out of hand. More and more youth are starting to fall victim to the urban terrorism, gang violence and youth violence that is spilling onto the streets and expressways of Chicago. It is clear that no one is safe from the violence no matter if you stay on the west, south, east or north side of Chicago. Chicago is becoming murder capital of not only America but the world with the recent string of shooting deaths that emerged over the weekend. 10 dead and at least 13 wounded in a weekend of violence is sure to hit every major newspaper in America right. No it didn't even make the radar of any newspaper as police detectives in Chicago say majority of the shootings were gang related.
While witnesses and close relatives of many who were shoot and killed as well as wounded say that these shootings were not gang related because the victims had no affiliation with any type of gang. While detectives continue to decipher through mountains of evidence and witness accounts, it is clear that the city of Chicago has a real gun violence problem that is leaving many youth caught in an endless and senseless war that is over nothing but colors, reputation and street creditability. It is clear that the recent events over the weekend gave a wake up call to many on the north and west side of Chicago because for weeks, the violence in the inner-city was only isolated to the south side. Now with the killings spilling over to other parts of the city and even parts of the suburbs, it is clear that Chicago has a real urban terrorism problem.
So with election season in full effect and many claiming that we can't wait on politicians to do anything for us, we must do it ourselves, I question what has anyone in Chicago done to fix this problem. I have written about gun violence in Chicago previously and even spoken about Mayor Daily's turn in your gun program that has really caught fire but has not deterred the gun violence problem by any means. Therefore I question what can individuals meaning ordinary citizens do to help the problem and what will any politician in Chicago or the state of Illinois do to correct the gun violence problem that is plaguing our youth. If we continue to sit back and think that we as individuals have to do it ourselves while our politicians do nothing to assist us in the problems that plague our streets than why do we elect individuals to political offices.
For literally 18 months and counting, I have heard Senator Barack Obama of Illinois speak about how he worked on the south side of Chicago to improve the living conditions on the south side and how his grassroots work makes him a viable candidate for President. However after carefully looking into Obama's record on the south side, I can't find any real solution he offered the south side besides registering them to vote. The south side of Chicago is just as bad as it was before Obama arrived to the city of Chicago. In fact I can't find any real solutions that Obama or any politician including Jesse Jackson Jr. and Sr. as well as any pastor or church group has done to improve the living conditions on the south side of Chicago. Chicago's south side is slowly but surely starting to look like Desert Storm III and IV. I know have not had a Desert Storm III or IV but that's my point, Chicago's south side is looking like a wasteland with youth caught in the middle of the violence.
Therefore what can be done about Chicago's gun violence and gang problem is the question that should be on the minds of politicians in Chicago. In fact what can we do to save our youth is a Presidential issue that both Presidential candidates need to answer. All this rhetoric without real solutions to America's problem is what makes me sick. I don't care if Obama is a celebrity and McCain is serving out a third term for Bush. What I care about is how will our schools get better, how will you provide us with universal health care, what is your energy plan, how will food and gas prices lower under your leadership and how will you protect the youth in America from gun and gang violence. Those are the questions that I want answered. Those are the things that I look at as problems that plague the American people.
If both Presidential candidates can't explain in full laid out detail their plans than why should we elect them to office. In fact, if any politician can't explain to us how they plan to address these issues than why should they be elected to office. Its time out for talk but we need action. Our youth need help and we need aid right here on the streets of America particularly in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Baltimore, Memphis and Atlanta. We need aid and resources that will deter gun violence and gang violence because politicians, citizens and pastors need to work together to fix the problems that plague today's youth or we will have another generation of great young leaders being buried at the same rate as those who are fighting in Iraq.
We can't fight international terrorism and not deal with the urban terrorism that is taking place in our own backyard. We need help and this latest violent spree that has taken place in Chicago over the weekend is the wake up call that should send a red alert throughout America.
SAVE OUR YOUTH BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! LET'S END THE WAR ON OUR YOUTH RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!
