I found the title of this article Why Whites Can't 'Get Over' Color on a website about Diversity. Therefore it made me think is race a problem that just Caucasians have or is this a problem that all races have. While some might say that Caucasians have a bigger problem with race than African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, Arab Americans, Asian Americans or other races but the truth of the matter is Caucasians are not the only ones who can not get over color. Race is an issue that exists in all communities no matter what color you are. Black, White, Brown, Yellow or Red, we all cannot get beyond color at some point in time. Color or racism as some call it exists throughout America and it is not just a problem between blacks and whites but it is a problem between all cultures and all groups of people in America.
I am not going to blame one race for the problems of another because we all play our role in creating problems. However we don't want to all accept the responsibility of our problems in society but we all want to share in the solutions or sometimes take all the glory for the solutions. We must understand that Caucasians are not the only ones who can't get over color despite the fact that they have ran America longer than any other race but the truth is that there are some black and brown people who are bigots but that doesn't mean that we all can work together to succeed in America.
America is the heartland of possibility and is the birthplace where dreams as well as the impossible can become the possible and where the unthinkable can becomes the believable. Therefore we must all understand that as long as we don't discuss race relations in America than we will always have a problem with it. A lot of racial issues have went by without fully being discussed and put out there so that all races can benefit. Senator Barack Obama started the conversation of race relations this year with his speech on race matters but now is the time to take it a step further and let's have a serious dialogue of all the races in America and why we have some people in our community with resentment, dislike or hatred for other races.
An open dialogue is needed and it is long over due. We cannot expect the issue of race or racism to be buried with the possibility of our First African American President but instead we must seriously have a full blown out discussion about it in order to come to a better understanding why some races view others in the negative light that they view them as. Thus whites can get over color as soon as the rest of the races of America and the world get over color. Until than, we can't just assume Caucasians will get over their race problems when the rest of us are not trying to get over ours. However it would be a start if Caucasians did and by the looks of this year's Democratic Presidential Primaries and Caucuses, it seems like Caucasians are starting to get over color because they participated in helping Senator Barack Obama clinch the Democratic Party Presidential nomination. So when will the rest of us start making the same effort to get beyond color and truly make America a country that is color blind.
