What is going on Detroit? Why are we standing by as Detroit citizens, teachers unions, and other unions in the city of Detroit as idiots continue to make bone head decisions. Thant he justification that our superintendent and the board will give for the new hires, promotions and reclassification's are that they are unnecessary employees. What in the world is an unnecessary employee? Is an unnecessary employee even needed in a district that is crying it broke. If we are hiring or promoting unnecessary employees than are we saying that the teachers and others who are facing being laid off are necessary employees.
Okay excuse me, maybe I am twisting Superintendent Calloway's words or our school board members words. Maybe they might to say that the nearly 1,400 DPS employees that might be laid off, they are unnecessary employees and the ones that they are hiring, promoting and reclassifying are necessary employees. So now they are telling us that firing nearly 800 plus teachers is justifiable because those teachers are unnecessary and can be replaced. Now I was sitting at a luncheon today with educators and administrators and many of them said that it was a point in time when the district needed qualified teachers and made regular subs or emergency subs permanent teachers. Now in 2008, we are saying that teachers no matter if they are qualified or not are unnecessary employees.
I guess the employees that work down at the at all three school center building locations are necessary employees because I don't hear about any of them losing their jobs. I guess any of the people that came in with Superintendent last year are necessary employees because there is no talk about any of them losing their jobs or perhaps taking a pay cut. The reality is that Superintendent Calloway and the School Board don't care about any one but themselves and their friends because any time you can sit up and fire two teachers in front of a packed audience when we already lost one lawsuit to them, brings me to question how in the world, can we cry broke but in the same breath disobey a judges order. Now we are going to face an upcoming lawsuit thanks to our unloved School Board and Superintendent for firing Steven Cohen and Heather Miller who are married and participated in a May 1, 2007 protest that resulted in hundreds of students being maced by Detroit Public School Security.
Yes a judge ruled in favor of Cohen and Miller saying DPS had to accept them back to work and pay them in back pay. However DPS accepted them back but put them on leave and paid them while they were on leave this year. Thus the married couple told the board and Calloway to make a decision on their future for next year now because they were ready to go back to work. However our idiot board and dumb superintendent decided to fire them rather than reinstatement fully.
Now our broke Detroit Public School District not only faces losing 1,400 employees with majority of them being 800 teachers but we will be facing a lawsuit that could have been avoided. I don't know what's worse in the city of Detroit, our school board or our Mayor & City Council. In fact I am going to say both and the citizens of Detroit are even worst for accepting this type of stupidity. We need to jail all the idiots on our school board and Superintendent Calloway and while we are at it jail Mayor Kwame Kilpartick and all our City Council members for the mismanagement of tax payer dollars. Where is the RECO act when you need it? I'm tired of hearing about the Federal Government coming to Detroit to investigate the financial happenings that have occurred but we need to do something now to make a difference and it starts with us the citizens taking back our school board and city by not electing any more idiots and by recalling all the idiots that we currently have in office.

Brother, before you become President, could you run for city government in Chicago? We need you!
I know that Detroit needs you more, but at least stop by when you go on tour. Forget Michael Eric Dyson, Michael Baisden and Michael from Good Times! You need your views to be heard!

About the School Board fiasco,
one can argue that the dismissed teachers are not working up to par. But that still doesn't excuse the actions of the Superintendent.
Great post!
