Where Are The Jobs?

This video highlights how Republicans have successfully made 'where are the jobs?' part of the national lexicon and turned it into a potent weapon against out-of-touch Washington Democrats on the most critical issue Americans are concerned about.

The recent disappointing jobs report demonstrates the pressing need to immediately enact the Pledge to America and help end the uncertainty caused by Washington Democrats' out-of-control spending spree and job-killing policies.

According to the Obama Administration's own projections, unemployment should now be at roughly seven percent on account of the 'stimulus,' but instead it now stands at 9.6 percent. In fact, unemployment is higher than the Obama Administration said it would be if we had not passed the 'stimulus' at all. Small businesses are pulling back at a time when we need them to be expanding and hiring, an uncertainty worsened by Washington Democrats' failure to stop all the tax hikes set to take effect January 1st . Near 10 percent unemployment and widespread uncertainty is a far cry from the robust recovery President Obama promised the American people.

With the Pledge to America, Republicans have offered a clear and positive plan to help end the economic uncertainty, create jobs, and make America more competitive. With the American people asking 'where are the jobs?,' Republicans' blueprint for job creation starts with stopping all of the looming tax hikes and ending Washington's out-of-control spending spree. Make no mistake, our economy will ultimately recover, but it will do so because of the hard work and entrepreneurship of the American people, not more of the same wasteful Washington spending and job-killing tax hikes and mandates.

Senate GOP Leader McConnell Delivers Weekly GOP Address On Democrats' Misplaced Priorities

In the Weekly Republican Address, Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) discusses congressional Democrats' lack of attention to jobs and looming tax increases.

Leader McConnell says, "At the moment, nearly 15 million Americans are currently looking for work and can't find it. Another 11 million are working below their skill levels. Yet virtually every single piece of major legislation Democrat leaders in Washington have proposed over the past 19 months has made it either harder for businesses to hire new workers or retain the workers they already have. And now they want to make it even worse."

He points out, "Earlier this week, Democrat leaders who've spent the past year and a half working tirelessly to expand the reach of government, left town without doing the single most important thing they could have done for jobs. Too preoccupied enacting the rest of their agenda, they neglected to pass or even propose legislation that would prevent one of the largest tax hikes in history. As a result, at the stroke of midnight on December 31st, every American who pays income taxes is set to get a tax hike that Democrats have had two years to prevent."

Republicans Question Democrats' Plans for Recession Tax Hikes

Senate Democrats still have not taken any action to stop massive tax hikes from hitting American families and small businesses in the new year. Republicans believe it is irresponsible to raise taxes on anyone during a recession and are working to protect all Americans from tax increases.

There needs to be a vote on the Bush tax cuts that are soon to expire so will Democrats take a vote or are they gutless to vote on this issue. Republicans in the Senate should be willing to have an up and down vote on the issue by not blocking any of it.

Washington (Aug 31) Following are excerpts from House Republican Leader John Boehner's (R-OH) address on national security, set to be delivered today at 2:10pm EST in Milwaukee, WI at the 92nd American Legion National Convention, in advance of President Obama's Oval Office Address to the Nation on Iraq:

IRAQ: "This day belongs to our troops, whose courage and sacrifices have made the transition to a new mission in Iraq possible. ... When General Petraeus embarked on the surge strategy in January 2007, it was widely viewed as our last chance to save Iraq from spiraling into an irreversible descent toward chaos. The consequences of failure then, as now, were severe. Some leaders who opposed, criticized, and fought tooth-and-nail to stop the surge strategy now proudly claim credit for the results. ... Today we mark not the defeat those voices anticipated -- but progress."

AFGHANISTAN: "I support our counterinsurgency strategy in Afghanistan, but the president must do more to emphasize his commitment to ensuring its success rather than focusing on meeting arbitrary deadlines for withdrawal. ... Using campaign promises as yardsticks to measure success in Iraq and Afghanistan runs the risk of triggering artificial victory laps and premature withdrawal dates unconnected to conditions on the ground."

MIDDLE EAST: "Iran is more than prepared to sacrifice the well-being of its people for the chance to fundamentally change the balance of power in the region. It is the true source of instability in the region, and we must not naively assume a nuclear-armed Iran would be containable. ... Where I come from, you stick by your friends, you stick by people who share your values. You do not send a message of strength to your enemies by shunning your friends and allies."

ECONOMY: "Today, as thousands of our warriors come home seeking to provide for their families and realize the American Dream they have volunteered to defend, they confront an economy that affords neither opportunities nor jobs. Veterans' unemployment is now at 11 percent. That is why I have called on my colleagues in the Congress and the president to join me in supporting a series of immediate actions to end the ongoing economic uncertainty and help more Americans find an honest day's work. 'Stimulus' spending sprees, permanent bailouts, federal mandates and government takeovers have failed this nation and have failed our veterans."

Deficit of Hope

This is a new Republican National Committee Ad. The ad says, "American's are fed up with Obama's economy of persistently high unemployment, crushing debt, and continued assault on the private marketplace." So taking off one's political cap for a second, is there any truth to the ad on the basis that Americans are fed up with Washington not just the Obama administration but Washington, D.C. in general when it comes to high employment and crushing debt as well as an economy that hasn't recovered despite the claims that legislators on the hill say, we are better off than we would have been without the Economic Recovery Act or TARP.

Well my answer is yes, Americans are fed up and tired of political bickering and jockeying that only benefits one political party over the other. Americans want solutions and at the current state, those solutions will be hard to find with this Congress. That's why in November regardless of your political party affiliation, we as Americans must elect the best candidate who has proven results to go to Washington to represent us the people who are suffering.

Boehner: It's Time to Shut Down TARP

http://gopleader.gov House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after House Democrats rejected a GOP motion-to-recommit that would have amended Democrats financial regulatory legislation (H.R. 4173) to shut down the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and require that TARP funds be used to pay down the national debt:

Today, House Democrats voted to continue TARP and go right on spending taxpayer dollars with reckless abandon. After a year-long spending spree, out-of-touch Washington Democrats are looking for money in all the wrong places to fund more of the same stimulus programs that arent working. Not only do Washington Democrats have no exit strategy for TARP, they want to keep the program alive so it can serve as a slush fund to bail out politicians.

"The American people are sick and tired of these open-ended bailouts and all this wasteful Washington spending. Taxpayer money paid back to the government should be used for debt reduction. Only Republicans are offering common-sense proposals to get government out of the bailout business and stop piling debt on our kids and grandkids.

NOTE: Democrats rejected a common-sense GOP motion-to-recommit proposal on the House floor today that would have amended Democrats financial reform legislation (H.R. 4173) to shut down TARP and require that TARP funds be used to pay down the national debt. The Republican motion-to-recommit also included a provision to lower the nations debt limit by an amount equal to that from shutting down TARP.

In the weekly Republican address, Carly Fiorina, former CEO of HP, describes how she was diagnosed with and beat breast cancer.

She explains why the recent recommendation on mammograms from a government-run panel was so troubling, especially because costs were a significant factor in the decision.

She points out, "The health care bill now being debated in the Senate explicitly empowers this very task force to influence future coverage and preventive care."

She wonders, under the Democrat health bill, "Will a bureaucrat determine that my life isn't worth saving?"

"Do we really want government bureaucrats, rather than doctors, dictating how we prevent and treat something like breast cancer?" she asks.
