Let's take a long view on costs, budget deficit--By Harold Ford Jr.

Among the many lessons from a summer of passionate town hall meetings is that Americans are concerned about the country's growing debt. And rightly so.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the federal budget deficit will reach $1.6 trillion in 2010. After that, the situation is even worse. The agency projects the deficit could exceed $9 trillion over 10 years. Over the past year, the government has taken some extraordinary steps, intervening in the marketplace in ways it had never done before. Before President George W. Bush left office, his administration engineered an unprecedented rescue of our nation's financial system that involved the government in running large financial institutions.

The financial rescue was absolutely necessary but was not enough by itself to get America out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Just weeks into office, President Barack Obama enacted a major stimulus package and provided much-needed aid to the domestic auto industry.

These measures are working. Once on the verge of a complete meltdown, the financial system has stabilized. Major financial institutions have begun to pay back the emergency loans with interest: According to one report, taxpayers have made a 15 percent profit from the eight largest banks that have fully repaid their TARP funds. Stock markets have rebounded from recent lows. Jobs have not come back yet, but the economy has begun to turn a corner and the groundwork is laid for a recovery.

However, the actions taken over the past year have led to real and justified fears that such unprecedented government intervention will become the norm -- that the government will just keep growing, with no way to pay for the increased spending.

President Obama is not responsible for the country's budget woes. The cost of the stimulus bill passed under his watch was a tiny fraction of the costs of decisions made during the previous administration, including providing tax cuts for the highest-income taxpayers, implementing a Medicare prescription drug plan with no measures to restrain costs, and making long-term military commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nonetheless, President Obama and congressional Democrats are in charge now, and as they work to address health care and other critical priorities, they must convince the American people that they are charting a responsible, sustainable course for the future.

Republicans in Congress must also contribute ideas and responsible leadership to reduce the nation's debt, rather than simply blaming President Obama.

The ability of the private sector to produce new jobs -- our economic future -- depends on how quickly we can get back on the path to fiscal responsibility. This means that any health-care reform plan should be paid for -- a promise that President Obama has made, and one that his predecessor should have made.

As soon as possible, Congress should also enact a law requiring that any new tax or entitlement programs be paid for with offsetting cuts in spending or new revenue. Perhaps most important, Washington policymakers need to stop taking a myopic view of our nation's budget outlook.

Congress currently considers only the 10-year budgetary impact of new initiatives. As a result, it has repeatedly passed bills that appear to be budget-neutral in the short term but that explode the deficit in the long term. Congress also has developed a bad habit of addressing important issues (such as the estate tax, the alternative minimum tax and payments to health-care providers) on a year-to-year basis.

This postpones, but at the same time worsens, the financial reckoning that is sure to come. Instead, the administration and Congress should systematically consider the impact of every new policy for 10 years and beyond.

Tennessee's 5th District congressman, Jim Cooper, is a leader in Congress on fiscal responsibility as the primary author of bipartisan legislation that sets a timeline for Congress to act to reverse the country's deficits. Under Rep. Cooper's plan, if Congress doesn't muster the political courage to act, a bipartisan commission would recommend ways to balance the budget that Congress would be forced to consider. It is modeled on the bipartisan process for consolidating military installations around the country. Congress should act on Rep. Cooper's plan.

The extraordinary measures taken at the height of the nation's economic crisis were needed, but it is time to take the long view. The American people will support initiatives such as health-care reform only if they can trust the current leadership not to leave them and their children with a massive bill.

Harold Ford Jr. Makes Rare Memphis Appearance--By Lee Smith

On a devastating election night, nearly three and a half years ago, Harold Ford Junior's 15 month crusade for a Tennessee US Senate seat ended agonizingly short of it's goal.

Addressing a saddened crowd that night, an emotionally drained Ford reflected, "These are moments, you can either shrink from or grow from."

Yet, in spite of having to temporarily abandon dreams derived from a previously skyrocketing political career, an appearance as a guest speaker at the Tennessee Bar Association Convention in Memphis on Friday, proved Ford jr. has grown quite comfortably into a man intent on responding to the beat of his own drum, for right now, at the expense of advancing his personal political fortunes.

Ford told the gathering, "In many ways this presents a real and meaningful opportunity for us to do some different things. To try things at an opportunistic moment and not only to hope, but believe the best will come from it."

Ford, who declined requests for interviews with the Memphis media, basically spoke in generalities about the national and international challenges facing the Obama administration. His carefully crafted themes reflected his stance as the head of the centrist think tank Democratic Leadership Council.

While he acknowledged his support for President Obama, who as an Ilinois Senator, helped generate funds for Ford's ill-fated 2006 Senate run, he didn't exactly rub it in for an audience of lawyers probably evenly split in their political allegiances.

In measured tones, Ford declared, "The great thing about his election is that really the reset button, the renewal button, that we're always able to push in this great country. The race was unremarkable in the sense that it continues a tradition in our country of we, we as Americans, of electing a person who is a response to the person before him."

Sharing the dais with Ford, was former U-S Senator and memorable Watergate Hearings Chairman, Tennessee Republican icon, Howard Baker. He too echoed the need for a middle-of-the-road approach to government rather than being mired in political partisanship in Congress.

Baker insisted, "The political system continues to work. There is a level of polarization. But, there's also a level of cooperation."

There may still be some mental scars from his vigorous 2006 campaign, but it's obvious, Harold Ford Junior has moved on. He's gone past that fateful crossroad, down a path that may one day lead him back to his dreams.

Congress should pass a smart second stimulus--By Harold Ford, Jr.

The recession that has caused immeasurable pain to American families has now lasted more than a year — the longest since the Great Depression. We’ve reached a pivotal moment, where the U.S. economy can either build on hopes of recovery and begin to grow once again or slide back into an even deeper contraction — one that could last years and have devastating effects.

This is not a time to sit by and wait for events to take their course in the hopes that the second scenario won’t occur. It can happen. And if it does happen, it is unclear whether any fiscal or monetary policies will get us out of it.

The emergency stimulus package that Congress passed in February is still being disbursed. But that is no reason to sit around and wait. This recession is much deeper, job losses more widespread and the danger of a prolonged downturn more real than we thought earlier this year. Then, unemployment was expected to peak at 8.5 percent. It is now 9.5 percent nationally and well over 10 percent in many parts of the country. Job losses actually increased from May to June.

The first stimulus will ultimately inject $787 billion into the economy, including $60 billion wisely invested in energy innovation.

At the same time, the recessionary pressures on the economy cannot be underestimated. More than $10 trillion in wealth was lost in U.S. stocks and real estate last year. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates, 7.2 million Americans have lost their jobs since the recession began. The flow of credit to small businesses has slowed, impeding the entrepreneurial energy that is the key to growth and recovery.

The biggest threat right now is that unending job losses will trigger even more foreclosures and sap the confidence needed to revive consumer spending and investment.

Worse, without action, the budget shortfalls facing U.S. states will force them to sacrifice the very investments that will allow for long-term growth — investments in education, job retraining and clean-energy technologies. Forty-eight states are facing budget deficits for the current year. Combined, the shortfall represents a quarter of state budgets.

To be effective, a stimulus must be designed to have an immediate impact in creating jobs and helping states weather the current economic crisis. At the same time, it cannot add to our long-term debt.

Designing a fiscally responsible stimulus is also the key to building political support. Recent polls have shown that a majority of the American people oppose a second stimulus. Clearly, this is not because they believe the economy is doing well. They would want Congress to do something, but they simply don’t trust it to do the right thing. They recognize the need for bold action but do not want Congress to drown the next generation in debt.

With these principles in mind, here is what I hope to see included in a second stimulus:

The stimulus must provide immediate aid for states of $150 billion to meet the current budget shortfalls. But to ensure fiscal responsibility, this aid should come in the form of loans, not grants.

Rather than apportioning aid to states solely by population, it should be conditioned on states developing plans to restore fiscal sustainability in the long term. I propose that the president appoint a five-person board to review aid requests from states on the basis of the states’ proven commitment to cutting waste, finding more stable revenue sources and making smart long-term investments. In the meantime, Congress must extend unemployment benefits for those who have exhausted theirs while struggling to find a job in this economy.

The stimulus should also use the most efficient and fast-acting method to boost workers’ paychecks and relieve employers’ payrolls: a 10-week holiday from payroll taxes for employers and businesses.

To ensure that an immediate stimulus does not hamper long-term growth, we must find ways to pay for it, including requiring states to repay loans. In addition, as banks repay principal and interest from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, Congress should dedicate the incoming funds toward immediate stimulus.

It is also critical that we take concrete steps to restore fiscal balance in the long run. New budget estimates for health care reform show that tough measures to rein in spending and curb reimbursements can have a significant impact on the rate of growth in costs. The unfortunate truth is that cost-cutting may need to be prioritized over expansion of coverage, which, in any case, is unsustainable without massive cost savings.

Through an emphasis on innovation and investment in new energy industries, President Barack Obama’s administration has begun to lay the groundwork for a U.S. economy that bolsters its position as the driving force of economic growth worldwide. But with job losses mounting, the threat that our economy will go in a different direction, toward prolonged, self-reinforcing stagnation, is too real to ignore. This is not a time for caution or moderation but, rather, for decisive action to create jobs.

Harold Ford Jr. decides against bid for Democratic nomination for Tenn. governor in 2010--By ERIK SCHELZIG

Former U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. says he has decided against a run for Tennessee governor in 2010.

The Memphis Democrat said in a release Monday that the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Bredesen "is not the right time to re-enter politics."

Ford was the Democratic nominee in the 2006 U.S. Senate race against Republican Bob Corker. Ford lost that race to the former Chattanooga mayor by fewer than 3 percentage points.

Democrats who have so far announced they will seek the gubernatorial nomination include state Sen. Roy Herron of Dresden, former state House Majority Leader Kim McMillan of Clarksville and Nashville businessman Ward Cammack.

Education reform is a defining issue

Education reform is a defining issue
By: Harold Ford Jr.
March 26, 2009

President Barack Obama's recent speech on education reform demonstrates that he is willing to put the full weight of his office behind fixing our failing schools. He called for higher standards, more charter schools, merit pay and eliminating bad teachers. When many of our urban school districts are graduating only 25 percent to 50 percent of their students, he knows that the failed methods and orthodoxies must be jettisoned for what will work.

The brave new world of the 21st century demands much more from our children. Obama's ambitious and sweeping agenda will help educate and equip them to make the most of the opportunities created by an integrated global economy.

While there is a broad national consensus for education reform in the country, Obama expects that special interests will oppose his reform agenda. Those who do will fight vigilantly to hold onto the failed schools that shame us as a nation.

But their actions will put them against the best interests of our children and on the wrong side of history. Teachers unions and education groups have expressed opposition in the past to ideas like merit pay and charter schools. They are strongly opposed to a successful voucher program in Washington, D.C., which tragically was killed by Senate Democrats in the omnibus spending bill that passed the Senate last week.

On behalf of the nation's children, Obama is prepared to take on members of his own party and the special interests. Along with turning around the economy, education reform could become the defining issue of his presidency.

Toward that end, the president and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan should consider hosting an education reform summit at the White House. The focus could be on what is working in public schools around the country. This list of "best practices" should be studied, evaluated and shared with principals and teachers -- especially in schools that are underperforming.

He could invite education groups, teachers unions, principals, teachers and education leaders who have a proven record of reform and inform them how they could qualify for federal funding for programs that comply with the policy ideas of the Obama administration.

The genius of America is that we have always been able to overcome the challenges we face. Acknowledging our failures and focusing on methods and programs that have succeeded in educating our children are the best place to start.

It is also time we wake the sleeping giant: the parents who have children attending public schools. Alexis de Tocqueville said that people in a democracy "reign supreme." The parents of public schoolchildren have never fully realized the power they have to bring change to underperforming schools.

With the financial support of the nation's leading charitable foundations, Parent Teacher Associations around the country could be transformed into a national grass-roots effort to advocate for reform of our schools. Patterned after the missionary zeal and political sophistication of the Children's Defense Fund, PTAs could be organized in school districts nationwide. Parents -- motivated by wanting a world-class education for their children and being highly informed and organized -- could bring persistent pressure to members of Congress to adopt an agenda of change to fix our failing schools.

What is at stake is nothing less than the American dream. To pass it on to our children and generations to come, we must restore quality and innovation to all our schools. President Obama knows that our legacy of excellence in education must be redeemed and, with his speech a couple of weeks ago, he has set us on a course to give our children the knowledge and skills they need to compete in this new and changing world.

As Americans, it's time we think of our obligations to each other. It's time we take seriously our collective responsibility for future generations. Providing our children -- regardless of race, class or religion -- with a world-class education is what binds us together and will make our country stronger.

President Obama's plan to reform our schools will help our children live up to their God-given potential. We don't have a moment to lose. Congress should enact his education reform proposal this year.

Innovation, not union-bashing, is road out of automakers' troubles--By Harold Ford Jr. -

THE TENNESSEAN
December 21, 2008
By Harold Ford Jr.

Intel's "strategic objective is tackling big problems and turning them into big businesses," said former Intel Chairman Andy Grove, as he urged the company's current leadership to begin manufacturing advanced batteries for plug-in cars.

Grove believes the future of the U.S. auto industry is in electric cars, and that America's battery production is limited. Thus, Grove contends, Intel should diversify its business by manufacturing advanced batteries for electric cars. Such a venture would create new jobs and increase Intel's profitability. In short, Grove believes Intel should innovate its way to future success.

The Intel model — past and future — is a good one for Detroit and Washington to follow. I watched and listened closely to the auto-bailout debate in Washington earlier this month, and the outcome revealed the stunning lack of creativity and innovation in saving the American automobile industry. Senate Republicans, led by the "Southern resistance" of Sens. Bob Corker, Mitch McConnell and Richard Shelby, implored that bloated and outdated labor agreements between unions and management were the cause of the industry's problems. They argued that, simply by undoing these labor agreements, the car companies could be put back on the path toward profitability again.

The Republican effort to put labor unions out of the car business may serve their political agenda, but it's narrow-minded and certainly no substitute for a long-term growth and innovation strategy to rehabilitate American carmakers. What is missing from the Corker-McConnell-Shelby argument is an equal zeal for incentivizing and rewarding innovation in Detroit.

American carmakers, aided by shortsighted allies in the White House and Congress, over the past two decades have repeatedly resisted making smaller and more fuel-efficient cars, while their Japanese and Korean counterparts manufactured and sold these cars to more and more Americans.

Senate GOP exacerbated market
In addition, the Corker-McConnell-Shelby effort in the Senate caused the auto bailout to fail, adding more stress to an already depressed U.S. job market, with the end result being that thousands of Tennesseans could lose their jobs right after the new year. Tennesseans should be relieved that President Bush defied Corker, McConnell and Shelby to keep the carmakers alive. This is the only way that middle-class Americans will hold on to their jobs while President-elect Barack Obama and the new Congress draft a serious auto restructuring plan.

The new plan will create an auto czar with the authority to rework labor and legacy cost agreements, bring in new management at GM and Chrysler, compel big and continued investments in new battery and hydrogen fuel technologies, and enact a set of tax credits to encourage Americans to buy these newly designed cars. It is true that Detroit's failures must be corrected for them to thrive going forward. But, Washington owes Detroit a more creative option than to destroy the labor unions or allow the carmakers to file Chapter 11.

A collapse of the American automobile industry could also cause great economic upheaval around the world. American carmakers have been very successful in selling cars in Russia, China, India and Brazil. They dominate many of these markets. Any disruption of the American auto industry could cause hundreds of thousands of jobs to be lost in these emerging countries, fueling a worse global recession.

The U.S. car industry's birth was predicated on vision, energy, hard work and innovation. Detroit's success over the decades has created millions of jobs around the country and contributed greatly to our national security. We are too great a country to permit this great industry to become a memory.

The 21st century will rise or fall on the innovation that America and the world can bring to the global marketplace. If the American automobile industry follows the lead of Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve Jobs of Apple, Fred Smith of FedEx, and, yes, Andy Grove of Intel, it will once again retain its leadership in the manufacturing of cars.

So, Washington and Detroit, get to work. There's not a moment to lose.

Will McCain Do Anything to Win?--By Harold Ford Jr.

Saturday, October 11, 2008; A21

Although our nation's economic house is on fire, John McCain isn't unveiling proposals to put out the fiscal flames. Instead, he is pursuing the presidency by taking the low road, as he and his surrogates attack Barack Obama in harsh, personal terms. It's hard to believe this is the same man who in 2004 said of the Swift-boat attacks against John Kerry: "I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable."

In fact, after McCain lost the Republican nomination to George Bush in 2000, he declared that there was a "special place in hell" for the Bush operatives who had run a smear campaign against him. By adopting the same approach against Obama, McCain diminishes his reputation and raises questions about his commitment to fairness and decency.

I know that John McCain is a man of courage and character. His ability to overcome the torture he endured at the hands of his North Vietnamese captors is a tribute to his strength and to the human spirit. But as Americans yearn for a president to lead us courageously into an uncertain future, McCain appears to be abandoning his creed of putting country first.

While I am disappointed in McCain's about-face, I am not surprised. When I ran for the Senate in 2006, my opponent, Bob Corker, also found himself trailing in the October polls. His campaign and the Republican National Committee launched a series of false and vicious character attack ads, including the infamous "call me" ad, in which a scantily clad white woman looked at the camera and said, "Harold, call me."

Every major news organization and independent ad-checking group ruled the ad a smear and deemed it way over the line. But that didn't stop John McCain from coming to Tennessee and campaigning for my opponent while the "call me" ad and other smears were broadcast across the state. Not once did McCain speak out against that ad as he did about the smear against John Kerry. In fact, the first manager he hired for his 2008 presidential campaign was Terry Nelson, the person who produced the "call me" ad. Nelson has such a history of practicing below-the-belt politics that Lee Iacocca, a strong supporter of McCain, wrote in his book "Where Have All the Leaders Gone?": "What does it say about John McCain that he's willing to make that kind of person the head of his team?"

This election may be the most consequential since Franklin Roosevelt won the presidency in 1932. Our country is at war in Iraq and in Afghanistan. The American dream is falling further out of reach of millions of families. We face intense competition from rising economic powers in Asia. And after eight years of the failed leadership of President Bush and Vice President Cheney, our image and standing around the globe are in disrepair. Our budget is burdened with runaway entitlement costs, and our public education system is failing our children.

John McCain has to make a choice over the next 3 1/2 weeks. Will he succumb to base impulses and take the country down a path littered with smears and personal attacks? Or will he focus on the future with straight talk and big ideas? America deserves solutions for its problems. Where are McCain's plans to replace the 750,000 jobs lost since the beginning of the year, to stop our financial meltdown, and to help the families hammered by the prices of gas, food and health care?

Harold Ford Jr. will lead Democratic Leadership Council

Former Memphis congressman Harold Ford Jr. today accepted the high-profile post of chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, the moderate policy group that launched a little-known Arkansas governor named Bill Clinton to national stardom and the presidency.

The announcement was made this morning at a Washington hotel breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, but had been anticipated for days.

Ford accepted the post, calling it "one of the most important organizations on the think-tank landscape. "

"I'm excited about the post for a couple of reasons," he said. "I think that the new majority in Congress presents not only our party with a great opportunity to give the nation a chance to see a new leadership but to embarking in a new direction on a lot of policy fronts."

DLC founder Al From and DLC president Bruce Reed made the announcement at the monthly breakfast for print journalists. Ford told the group that the job is temporary in the sense that he plans to seek elective office in Tennessee in the future......

It's Official: Harold Ford Jr. is the DLC's New Chair

Harold Ford Jr. won’t be head of the Democratic National Committee, James Carville’s wishes notwithstanding. The former 9th District congressman and U.S. Senate candidate will be chairman of the right-centrist Democratic Leadership Council, a private lobbying group. In fact, he is chairman of the DLC, as of Thursday. Ford, who succeeds Iowa governor Tom Vilsack (now a presidential candidate) is "one of the brightest stars in the Democratic Party," said DLC Founder Al From. “

“I love Jesus, I love women and I love football,” Ford told reporters on Thursday. Yes, he really did.

That last was an oblique tongue-in-cheek reference to the furor that erupted in the national media last year after a Republican National Committee attack ad that, among other things, satirized the then Democratic candidate's attendance at a Super Bowl party sponsored by Playboy Magazine.

Ford, who was defeated in his Senate bid by Republican Bob Corker, also found time on Thursday to tout another disappointed candidate from Tennessee, former presidential contender Al Gore -- but only to win an Oscar for his "Inconvenient Truth" documentary on global warming.

Oh,and Ford wants the Colts to win the Super Bowl. Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning is "a Tennessee man," the once-and-no doubt-future statewide candidate explained.

Jay-Z - History

(Jay-Z - History)Jay-Z - History with Lyrics

LYRICS : [Chorus: Cee-lo]
Now that all the smoke is gone
(Lighter)
And the battle's finally won
(Gimme a lighter)
Victory (Lighters up) is finally ours
(Lighters up)
History, so long, so long
So long, so long

[Verse 1: Jay-Z]
In search of victory, she keeps eluding me
If only we could be together momentarily
We can make love and make history
Why won't you visit me? until she visit me
I'll be stuck with her sister, her name is defeat
She gives me agony, so much agony
She brings me so much pain, so much misery
Like missing your last shot and falling to your knees
As the crowd screams for the other team
I practice so hard for this moment, victory don't leave
I know what this means, I'm stuck in this routine
Whole new different day, same old thing
All I got is dreams, nobody else can see
Nobody else believes, nobody else but me
Where are you victory? I need you desperately
Not just for the moment, to make history

[Chorus: Cee-lo]
Now that all the smoke is gone
(Lighters)
And the battle's finally won
(Lighters)
Victory is finally ours
(Yeah)
History (yeah), so long, so long
So long, so long

[Verse 2: Jay-Z]
So now I'm flirting with death, hustling like a G
While victory wasn't watching took chances repeatedly
As a teenage boy before acne, before I got proactiv I couldn't face she
I just threw on my hoodie and headed to the street
That's where I met success, we'd live together shortly
Now success is like lust, she's good to the touch
She's good for the moment but she's never enough
Everybody's had her, she's nothing like V
But success is all I got unfortunately
But I'm burning down the block hoppin' in and out of V
But something tells me that there's much more to see
Before I get killed because I can't get robbed
So before me success and death ménage
I gotta get lost, I gotta find V
We gotta be together to make history

[Chorus: Cee-lo]
Now that all the smoke is gone
(Lighters. Up.)
And the battle's finally won
(Lighter. Up.)
Victory is finally ours
(Lighters. Up.)
History, so long, so long
So long, so long

[Verse 3: Jay-Z]
Now victory is mine, it tastes so sweet
She's my trophy wife, you're coming with me
We'll have a baby who stutters repeatedly
We'll name him history, he'll repeat after me
He's my legacy, son of my hard work
Future of my past, he'll explain who I be
Rank me amongst the greats, either 1, 2, or 3
If I ain't number one then I failed you victory
Ain't in it for the fame that dies within weeks
Ain't in it for the money, can't take it when you leave
I wanna be remembered long after you grieve
Long after I'm gone, long after I breathe
I leave all I am in the hands of history
That's my last will and testimony
This is much more than a song, it's a baby shower
I've been waiting for this hour, history you ours

[Chorus: Cee-lo (2x)]
Now that all the smoke is gone
And the battle's finally won
Victory is finally ours
History, so long, so long
So long, so long

Man in the Mirror--By Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson - Man in the mirror

I'm gonna make a change,
for once im my life
It's gonna feel real good,
gonna make a diference
Gonna make it right...

As I, turn up the collar on
my favorite winter coat
This wind is blowing my mind
I see the kids in the streets,
with not enought to eat
Who am I to be blind?
Pretending not to see their needs

A summer disregard,a broken bottle top
And a one man soul
They follow each other on the wind ya' know
'Cause they got nowhere to go
That's why I want you to know

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
(If you wanna make the world a better place)
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
(Take a look at yourself, and then make a change)
(Na na na, na na na, na na, na nah)

I've been a victim of a selfish kind of love
It's time that I realize
That there are some with no home, not a nickel to loan
Could it be really me, pretending that they're not alone?

A willow deeply scarred, somebody's broken heart
And a washed-out dream
(Washed-out dream)
They follow the pattern of the wind ya' see
'Cause they got no place to be
That's why I'm starting with me
(Starting with me!)

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm asking him to change his ways
(Ooh!)
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
(If you wanna make the world a better place)
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
(Take a look at yourself, and then make a change)

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm asking him to change his ways
(Change his ways - ooh!)
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that..
(Take a look at yourself and then make that..)
CHANGE!

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
(Man in the mirror - Oh yeah!)
I'm asking him to change his ways
(Better change!)
No message could have been any clearer
(If you wanna make the world a better place)

A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cook

It's been a long time coming but a change is surely going to come in America and the World! I am the Future of America and the World and that is the message that each of us must carry with us each and every day that we wake up on Earth! I am the Future! You are the Future! We are the Future of America and the World! That is way every election is important--primaries, special elections and general! So vote every year and hold our politicians accountable. Hold our political officials accountable by writing them, calling them and making sure they attend meetings that we the people have. "The Time for Change is not Now but Right Now!"

"EmPOWERment By Any Means Necessary" should be our anthem and should be our creed as we make the positive differences in America and the world that so many people beg for and hungry for year after year! A Change is Gonna Come, A Change is Gonna Come, that's what we must say as we say "God grants us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, Courge to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference" each morning before we go about the task of making a positive change in America and the world a reality.

Born In The U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen

“When will people realize that we are Americans first and foremost, not Democrats or Liberals, not Republicans or Conservatives, not Independents or moderates. We are Americans. Stop putting a political party above America and stop putting any politican above America. America succeeds because of us the people holding our government responsible no matter the political party because the main two political parties are to blame for the condition America is in."—Hodari P.T. Brown

America with its flaws and all is a country I am proud to have been born in. America is not perfect but my love for it is perfect. That’s why all Americans must realize that we are all Americans. In fact we are Americans first and foremost. We are not Democrats or Republicans. We are Americans.

We are not Muslims, Christians or Jews. We are Americans. Too many times we recognize our differences with others rather than appreciating our similarities which are, we are Americans. We are Americans first and foremost, no matter if we were born here or moved here legally. We are all Americans, here in this country to make not only our lives better but the lives of other Americans better so future Americans can enjoy the rights and freedoms that make us all Americans.

We are all Americans. We are one party united under God. We are Americans and this is the only political party that matters. We are Americans and this is our country so let’s make sure that we make America better than how we found it so future Americans can live prosperous and joyous lives. We are Americans and must not ever forget that.

America will prosper as long we make sure we are doing our part to make it prosper and that means we can’t put any political party or politician above America. Long live America forever and long live America’s service to the world. Together, America and the world will prosper for future generations to enjoy America and the world we live in.

Lift Every Voice and Sing

If I Was President--Wyclef Jean

If I was President that is the people's anthem. We all have ideas of what we can do as President and through this website, we will fulfill our deam as a people!

Somethings Gotta Give--Big Boi ft Mary J Blige

Somethings Gotta Give people and it begins today for all us to make sure that something is us. We the people are sick and tired of suffering. Where is our piece of the Dream that so many people dead for so that we all could see today. This is our time people to change America and the world so that the Next Generation has a better future than the past we inherited.

This is our call to service. This isn't about one political candidate or one political figure. This is about us as people coming together to finally leave up to our potential and achieving the great feats that those before us have achieved. This is our moment to lead our nation and our world to greater heights.

Somethings gotta give people and it starts with us the people making it happen. We have to improve our education system in America. We have to rid the world of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We have to go to the streets and lift a hand to another in order to decrease poverty in this world. We have to take a stand today and make sure that the future of America and the world is brighter than it has ever been.

Somethings Gotta Give and that is why we must "Remember Each One, Reach One and Teach One so America's future and the World's future continues to prosper."

John Legend - "If You're Out There"

If you're out there than you need to get started in helping to change America and the world. The world and America won't change until you get involved in making the changes you want to see in this world. If you're out there, than you must know that tomorrow started now and today started yesterday so you are behind in helping to the change. If you are tired of hatred, racism, poverty, war, and violence than the time to change it is now. If you want universal health care, world peace, democracy for every nation, equal rights, and happiness for all than you must get involved now to help the save world.

You must believe in the change that you want to see and you must act on making that change a reality. If you're out there than say it aloud and show the rest of America and the world that you're out here to make a real positive change in the communities we stay in. If you're out there than get involved now. I'm calling every women and men to join me as we take back our country right here, right now. If you're out there than the future started yersterday and we are already late so we have lots of work to do but I know we can do it together as one.

YES WE CAN

Yes We Can accomplish anything that we set out to do! We don't need charismatic or inspirational leaders to believe in ourselves and to take responsiblity for our own faith, we just need each other. Yes We Can build a new America and a new world if each of us would take action now to make the changes that we want to see in the world. Yes We Can control government by holding our political officials accountable for their actions by calling them out when they don't pass legislation that supports the common good of all man and by voting in every election to ensure that we have people representing the people locally, state wide, nationally and in the world.

Yes We Can be great! Yes We Can be what we want to be! Yes We Can be glorious in not only America but the world! Yes We can put action behind our worlds and change the world starting right here, right now! Yes We Can as Republicans, Democrats and Independents become one as we freely think about our fellow men and women and make decisions that will be in the best interest of all people and not one single group.

Yes We Can be the change that we want to see in the world! Yes We Can show the world that the youth are ready to lead! Yes We Can put our egos, our social economic statuses, our religions, our educational statuses and our skin color to the side for the better good of the world! Yes We Can be Greater than we have ever been and help others be Greater than they have ever be!

YES WE CAN and YES WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS IN ALL THAT WE DO! YES WE CAN, no matter what others may say, we will be glorious! YES WE WILL and YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!

YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN is what will be sung from every mountaintop, every riverbank, every household, every school yard, every factory, every sporting event, every college campus and even every place you can imagine in the world is where YES WE CAN, will be said and heard!

YES WE CAN!

Keep On Pushing - Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions

Wake Up People! No matter who is elected to any public office, we have to “Keep On Pushing” as a people to make sure they don’t leave us in a worst state than what they inherited. We as a people have to “Keep On Pushing” to make a difference in the lives of others. We have to have an “EmPOWERment By Any Means Necessary” attitude as we continue to push our agenda that we the people deserve and want better. We have to “Keep On Pushing” to bring about change in a positive way that will benefit all Americans no matter their age, their religion or skin color. We have to “Keep On Pushing” to bring about change that will improve our education system, improve our military, improve our national security, improve our healthcare system and improve our economy. We have to “Keep On Pushing” to bring about change that will leave America’s future in a better than how we found it and that will leave the world’s future in a better state than we imagined we could live it. We have to “Keep On Pushing” to make life better for our neighborhoods, our families and even our quote on quote enemies. We have to “Keep On Pushing” to inspire, to uplift and to guide those who need help spiritually, physically and mentally. We have to “Keep On Pushing ” so that our lives, our future generation’s lives and the lives of those who came before us does not die in vein.

A War For Your Soul

A War For Your Soul-regular version from Erisai Films on Vimeo.

The moment has come for us as a nation of people to finally wake up and realize that our destiny and fate in society has rests on our shoulders. We cannot allow the forces of evil and darkness to drain us out. We have to continue to overcome all odds in order to make the future of our nation better and the future of future generations of Americans better. We have to continue to pray to our Lord and we have to continue to uplift each other in prayer as well as take action against those things that are trying to destroy us. We have to stand up once and for all and be the future that we want to be. Now is our time and we shall do together by any means necessary.

This video was created to inspire young African-Americans not to fall prey to some of the problems they face in society. The use of the voice "Master of Darkness" represents evil, which is where the blame of all problems should be placed, and not on any one group of people. This video should not to be used to divide people (Black & White), there are images of heroes that are white in this video, and there are images of Black & White coming together with the words of Dr. King in the background. Some of the images from the past can be unsettling, but they are used to show all Americans how far we have come, and how far we still have to go. This film is being strategically placed in school systems, churches and youth orgs around the country, in hope of helping a lost generation of kids that we as Americans have forgotten. As fellow Americans we must continue to love each other, and take that love and spread it to the rest of the world. **THIS VIDEO IS NOT FOR SALE & I AM NOT ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR THE FILM, I ONLY WANT THE MESSAGE TO REACH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT ANY HIDDEN POLITICAL OR FINANCIAL AGENDA.

Sitting On the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding

"The time for sitting is over! The time for action is now! The time for hope without action is hopeless! The time for change without a positive attitude is a change that we can't believe in! We need change that is positive of helping all people! Our time for action is now, our time for hope is now, our time for change is now and our time to believe that we can do whatever we set our minds to is not now but right now!"

STAR SPANGLED BANNER

The Star-Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming;
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream;
'Tis the star-spangled banner; O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight and the gloom of the grave;
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave!

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land,
Praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just.
And this be our motto— "In God is our trust; "
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Black President

Our Time is not now but Right Now! Our Time has finally come to change the world not now but Right Now! If you don't believe that we can change the world than watch as we do it by changing your mind into believing in us and what we can do! This is OUR TIME RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!

FIGHT THE POWER

We got to FIGHT THE POWER! We can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch injustices take place. We can no longer sit by and allow our right to vote to become unexercised. We must FIGHT THE POWER for our past, present and future! We can no longer allow our rights to be oppressed and our voice to become drained by the powers at be. We must FIGHT THE POWER and show that we have a lot to say that needs to be heard by the mainstream media. We must FIGHT THE POWER and live up to our potential as dynamic, unbelievable and phenomenal people.

We must not believe the hype but we must become the hype. We are not Harriett Tubman, Marcus Garvey, MLK, Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, Carter G. Woodson, W.E.B. DuBois, the Black Panther Party, SNCC, or any other activists but we are the fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, uncles, aunties, and relatives of those who came before us to pave the way for us to FIGHT THE POWER! We are not next Generation of leaders who will not be honored and praised until they die but that’s the fight we accept. We are not fighting the power for glory or fame but we are fighting the power for just causes that most men and women will not understand until years or decades later.

We are fighting for our sisters and brothers in Darfur, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, China and Mexico. We are speaking for those who are poor and have no food or water. We are fighting for those who are sick and dying. We are fighting for universal healthcare across the world and human rights for all people. We are fighting for rich and poor! We must FIGHT THE POWER no matter how hard and tough the road may be. We must FIGHT THE POWER for a better today and an even greater tomorrow!

FIGHT THE POWER!

PEOPLE GET READY

“People Get Ready” our time is coming! We have come too far to turn back now. Our train is coming and it is coming in waves. “People Get Ready”, we don’t need a ticket but we need faith and the Lord will help guide us as we take back America and the world. “People Get Ready” our moment is now and we are ready to see the change we want in America and the world. All we got to do is have faith, hope and prosperity. “People Get Ready” to face your fears. “People Get Ready” to face your demons and the challenges of yesterday because today and tomorrow we will conquer & be victorious. “People Get Ready” a change is coming and our actions will make sure that change is a real positive change that lasts forever.

“People Get Ready” because we have had enough of just talking but now is our time to show action. “People Get Ready” to take back America and the world. “People Get Ready” to take back our communities and to make our streets safer and schools better. “People Get Ready” to make all our dreams come true. “People Get Ready” to see a better present for everyone and a better future for future generations. “People Get Ready” to live up to your potential and to help others live up to their own potential. “People Get Ready” to move past hatred, bigotry, racism and sexism. “People Get Ready” to fulfill the dreams of those who came before us and those who will come after us.

“People Get Ready” as we make our actions speak louder than our words. “People Get Ready” to make words mean something again as we put action to back up our rhetoric. “People Get Ready” as we embark on a new journey that will re-write America’s history as well as the world’s history. “People Get Ready” as we make the lives of others better and the lives of future generations better. “People Get Ready” because all we need is faith, hope and action to make this world a better place. “People Get Ready” to make a difference. “People Get Ready” to fulfill the American dream. “People Get Ready" to live out the American Dream as our founding fathers wanted us to live it. “People Get Ready” because our time is now, our moment is now and our moment in time to change America & the world is not now but right now. “People Get Ready” because a change is coming!

Alicia]
(Let me tell you now)
People get ready, there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, you just thank the lord

[Lyfe]
People get ready, for a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most

[Alicia]
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all man kind just to save his own (believe me now)
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there's no hiding place against the kingdoms throne

[Alicia & Lyfe]
So people get ready there's a train coming
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels humming,
You don't need no ticket, you just thank the lord
