Folsom always gives the impression he would rather be anywhere than on the campaign trail. Re-nomination as lieutenant governor should be easy for him and name recognition in the general election should make him the favorite against any Republican.
The votes don’t add up for any other Democrat to run for governor against a sound black candidate. That’s strength that will help the congressman from Birmingham, who already is working hard in North Alabama for votes.
As a gubernatorial candidate against Davis, however, Folsom could not count on the heavy black vote in his party, without which he would have a difficult time garnering the nomination. Other white Democrats face the same problem.

He also happens to be highly qualified for the office by experience and education, which would broaden his appeal in the general election.
Now, Davis seems to be controlling the Democratic campaign for governor while Republicans look for life after Bob Riley.
