1. Give the campaign three hours a week. Pledge today to spend three hours a week helping to elect Harold Ford Jr. to be Tennessee’s next U.S. Senator and to re-elect Governor Bredesen. A small amount of your time equals a big reward for the campaign. Go to http://www.fordfortennessee.com/ or http://www.bredesen.com/ to volunteer.
2. Recruit at least three student volunteers. The Ford for Tennessee campaign and Governor Bredesen campaign needs to mobilize every voter and get them invested in this election. A good volunteer is our most valuable asset.
3. Visit every dorm room in your dorm hall. Your dorm resident may not be as politically savvy as you are. Sit down with them and talk about the issues. Engage their concerns, answer their questions, and persuade them to vote for Harold Ford, Jr. and Governor Bredesen on November 7th.
4. Obtain a phone list and call student voters. Every Ford and Bredesen supporter must vote if we’re to be successful in November, and we have a million calls to make between now and Election Day. Join a phone bank, or work from your dorm home, just get the calls made.
5. Write a letter to the campus editor once a week. Earned media is precious, and editorial letters often sway more opinions than columnists do. Show your campus that Congressman Ford and Governor Bredesen’s support is broad based.
6. Make a financial contribution. Your dollars help us get the word out, mobilize voters, and provide desperately needed outreach; Even if you can only contribute $5 it helps us reach voters.
7. Speak at a campus organization’s meeting. Campus leaders often invite speaker to their meetings. We are happy to provide talking points, so you can represent Harold Ford Jr. and Governor Bredesen’s campaigns.
8. Register at least 10 people to vote. This is crucial. Carry voter registration forms with you at all times. If they don’t know if they registered in Tennessee than it doesn’t hurt to register again to make sure.
9. Help build crowds for Ford events. When Harold Ford Jr. or Governor Bredesen are coming to Nashville or on your campus, mobilize as many people as you can to attend. It’s good for morale and the media.
10. Spread the word at campus events. Represent Ford-U.S. Senate campaign and Governor Bredesen’s campaign when you’re out and about. Wear your button; give out stickers, etc. to drum up support.
11. Distribute yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. Visibility is key. Help us make an impression.
12. Email text message or text book your friends and classmates. Contact your friends, classmates, and other students in Tennessee and tell them whey you support Harold Ford Jr. and Governor Bredesen.
13. Send out postcards to remind folks about Early Vote. Early Voting begins on Oct. 18th and lasts through Nov. 2nd. It is crucial that Harold Ford Jr. and Governor Bredesen go into the Election Day with as many votes in the bank as possible. Send a quick not to your friends, classmates, co-workers and neighbors encouraging them to take advantage of Early Voting.
14. Take Election Day off to work the polls. Whether it’s carpooling voters to the polls, calling to remind voters, doing visibility, or last-minute campaigning, we need as many people as possible on November 7th to help ensure Team Ford and Governor Bredesen’s victories.
15. Take five people to the polls with you on November 7th. Of course, the most important thing you can do is vote for Harold Ford, Jr. and Governor Bredesen. Be responsible for making sure that at least five of Ford and Bredesen’s supporters go with you.
