I recently read an article by Toure in Time magazine discussing should Malcolm X have a national holiday and it made me realize just how powerful and iconic Malcolm was in the sense of what the American Dream really is. Malcolm came from poverty as well as hardships such losing his father to death while being young than being snatched from his mom and being put in foster care where he was thought he couldn't be a lawyer. Thus encountering all of that which led to a life of crime before hitting prison where he was reformed and started to become a dynamic civil rights leader in the north.So Toure asked what ideals would we celebrate on Malcolm X Day, May 19, his birthday? Many. Malcolm’s not a static intellectual figure — his mind journeyed throughout his life, he held firm to his principles but was also strong enough to re-evaluate his beliefs and change when he deemed change is right. He was far from a flip-flopper who moved because it was politically expedient — and thankfully not an intellectual mule who refused to change when he uncovered new information and perspectives. Malcolm was intelligent and bold enough to be open-minded. His courage to be a truth seeker is part of what we’d celebrate — his willingness to reconsider his principles, to be protean, to challenge himself and be willing to grow and thus embody the transformative potential of American life. We would celebrate not just his willingness to journey but also his journey itself, which concludes with militancy being defeated by humanism and with racial hatred being defeated by globalism and multiracial acceptance.While we celebrate Dr. King and praise him year end and year out it was a time when King was considered a threat to our society. So as Toure says, "Surely some will not be able to wrap their heads around supporting a Malcolm X federal holiday because they will get stuck on the image of Malcolm as violent. This misunderstands several things. King was, at a time, considered dangerous and was hated too and, more importantly, Malcolm merely proposed that oppressed people had a right to armed self-defense — an inherently American principle. King, who preached steadfast non-violence, represents America as it wishes it were, while Malcolm symbolizes America as it is. Malcolm never equated self-defense with violence for its own sake and he never fomented violence. He was wiretapped and followed inside and outside the United States by the FBI, the CIA and the NYPD for years and years — if he had incited violence, even in a private conversation at home, he would surely have landed in legal trouble. Indeed, the FBI noted its difficultly in neutralizing him because he did not conspire to break laws and lived by a stringent moral code. A New York police officer surveilling him went to his bosses and told them they should be helping Malcolm — such is the righteousness of his positions to someone who truly listened."Malcolm was a man unreservedly committed to the cause of liberating black people by any means necessary and his fierce but loving advocacy helps move the country forward as much as King’s Gandhi-ist movement. We cannot separate Malcolm from his era in that he conveyed the righteous anger of the black masses during his time but linked it to an articulation and a brilliance that was inspiring as well as a geopolitical, economic, spiritual and religious strategy. Malcolm was angry because we were, but instead of sparking riots he incited deep self-pride and linked the civil rights struggle to human rights. His militant advocacy was as stunning as it was necessary, to force the issue and imbue millions with the confidence and spirit and strength needed to overcome. He knew power gives up nothing without a demand and inspired millions to not accept victim status and imbued them with the agency to force America to become as democratic as it claimed to be. Malcolm is the true father of Black Power (and its son hip-hop), which deeply inspires all identity freedom movements that follow it.so without a doubt Malcolm X was just as important to America and the civil rights movement as well as black nationalism and humanism world wide than King, Ghandi, and Mother Theresa. It is clear that if America is to celebrate Malcolm X than more about his legacy and impact needs to be talked about to show the positive side of the things not always discussed. Today marks the beginning of 2012 and this is yet another Presidential election year. However I want to take this time and ask everyone to be independent. Don't allow yourself to be trapped in the political vortex known as the lesser of two evils between the two headed monster known as the Democratic and Republican Parties. It is time for a revolt in America from the two party political system that has left us as a nation crippled and left for dead not just the past decade but for several decades now. For all those who like to point to the glorious 90s, they fail to mention that our nation's national debt was even growing even with a balanced budget and a national surplus for a year or two.Still many political pundits fail to take into account that a surplus for a year or two does not wipe away a growing debt that has been in the making for decades and with each passing decade as Republicans and Democrats jockey for control of Congress and the White House, we the American people are left to wonder how have we arrived at this point in our nation's history. It's not as simple as blaming one political party or President when both parties contributed while several Presidents have added to this point of a crippling economy and poverty at an all time high.For years we the people have been caught in the ponzi scheme of politics as campaign finance laws have been shattered, our financial and banking system continues to get rich off the backs of the less fortunate and healthcare has yet to arrive to all Americans yet but the cost of it increases daily for those that do have it. All the while Congress continues to get an automatic yearly increase in its salary while it's suppose to be a pay freeze on all federal employees. Then don't mention the fact that those who defend our rights and freedoms abroad and at home, our troops, benefits and pay are being cut every chance Congress and the White House gets but they support the troops. You should laugh at any politician in Washington, D.C. that says that but voted to cut military benefits.So once again I tell you don't be fooled in 2012 by the two headed political monster known as Democrats and Republicans. Be independent in 2012 and break away from the political party system. Start doing your research and take back your country from the Democratic and Republican political parties that have been bought by the bankers, financiers and other rich as well as power brokers while forgetting about the poor, needy and less fortunate in the process. Now is the time to be independent and not fall for the trap once again during this election year.BE INDEPENDENT!

Stop the Politics

The American people don't want to hear that the $2 billion we have spent to liberate the Libyan people is less than what the previous administration spent to liberate the Afghanistan and Iraqi people. Clearly stop the politics because we need to jobs in America and that $2 billion that was spent liberating Libya could have went toward improving our schools, our infrastructure, etc. Thus stop the political games and acting like over the last 3 years we aren't still spending billions of dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan because we are.

The Occupy Wallstreet Movement is in month number 1 and it has spread to cities all across America, even right here in my hometown of Detroit. The movement is not simply a liberal movement just like the Tea Party movement isn't a conservative movement. They both are American movements built on up on the frustration of an ineffective government structure that has failed mainstreet America while rewarding Wall Street and the bank barons.

Both movements are built out of frustration of our nation's government being ineffective and while both conservative & liberal groups have high jacked or at least are trying to highjack both movements, it is clear that the Occupy Wall Street movement is the last hope for us as ordinary Americans to finally demand that Democrats do what they said they did when they controlled both houses of Congress from January 2009-December 2010 and that's regulate Wall Street once and for all. In fact it is time to demand that Republicans do the same.

10 year Anniversary of Operation Enduring Freedom

Economist Jeffrey Sachs was recently on MSNBC TV speaking the truth about how Democrats & Republicans are both in pockets of corporations. Sachs said that the stimulus, tax cuts and bailouts were misguided and ineffective. Sachs even went on to say look at who is paying for the fundraising dinners to see President Barack Obama, it's the elites cause who can afford a $3,500 plate meal. Surely not the average Joe or Jane especially not in this economic climate.

So if we are to take back America, we must start by standing up and being American. We must stop being Democrats & Republicans and start being Americans first and foremost. Iowa GOP Debate: Jon Huntsman Says His Economic Plan "Is Coming"

Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is released an economic plan last week that included a call for lowering the top federal tax rate on income to 23% and eliminating all taxes on capital gains and dividends.

Huntsman, who trails the rest of the GOP field, is attempted to grab attention by getting a jump on other 2012 candidates who will be announcing their own plans such as Mitt Romney who delivered his job's plan yesterday in a Las Vegas area speech. Huntsman also put his plan out there ahead of President Obama, who will announce his latest jobs and economic stimulus plan Thursday.

"Meeting our challenges will require serious solutions, but above all, it will require serious leadership – a quality in high demand in our nation's capital, and among my opponents on the campaign trail," said Huntsman. That line, part of Huntsman's effort to portray himself as "a serious leader," was a swipe at his GOP rivals, a tactic the former China ambassador has been aggressively pursuing in hopes of sparking interest in his candidacy. He has fallen to one percent in several recent national opinion surveys, including one released last week by Quinnipiac University.

Huntsman's economic plan calls for reducing the federal tax rate on corporations to 25% and removing "all loopholes, deductions and tax expenditures." That would mean doing away with tax breaks for home mortgages and for charitable giving. However, he said his plan would be revenue-neutral, with the increases in taxes that would come from closing loopholes plowed back into the system to lower tax rates.

Huntsman delivered his address at a manufacturing plant in New Hampshire, the first primary state, where he is focusing his long shot bid. "It's time for America to start working again; it's time for America to start building things again; it's time for America to compete again. I believe with a new administration we can do just that," Huntsman said.

The Huntsman campaign also released a new ad, which proclaims that "it's time for a serious leader." It includes footage of a motorcycle rider in red rock country, produced by Huntsman's former adman Fred Davis. Davis left the campaign in late July to join a new "Super PAC" that is gearing up to supplement the former Utah governor's official campaign organization, according to Our Destiny PAC.

Still in a speech titled “Time to Compete,” the former Utah governor introduced an economic strategy that fuses ideas from the Paul Ryan plan as well as the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles Commission. Huntsman’s speech focused on five distinct areas: debt, tax reform, regulatory reform, energy independence, and free trade.

“My plan may be challenged by the special interests, on the left and the right. But it represents a serious path forward – toward fiscal discipline and economic growth,” Huntsman said to the crowd of 50 to 60 people, according to the campaign. “It also represents a very different vision for our country than the current occupier of the White House. The President believes that we can tax and spend and regulate our way to prosperity. We cannot. We must compete our way to prosperity.”

On controlling the nation’s debt, Huntsman noted that he supports many of the Ryan Plan’s ideals paired with a balanced budget amendment. “Our debt is immoral and it should be unconstitutional as well. But we cannot restore our nation’s economic strength by cuts alone,” he said.

Huntsman then outlined his approach to tax reform, simplifying the system by the removing loopholes and temporary provisions. “Rather than tinker around the edges of a broken system, I’m going to drop a plan on the front steps of the Capitol that says, ‘We need to clean house.’ Get rid of all tax expenditures, all loopholes, all deductions, all subsidies. Use that to lower rates across the board. And do it on a revenue-neutral basis,” he said.

On individual taxpayer rates, Huntsman plans to remove all deductions and credits, lowering rates to 8, 14, and 23 percent. He also plans to rid of the Alternative Minimum Tax, which Huntsman says “is unfairly penalizing a growing number of families and small businesses.” Huntsman suggests that eliminating taxes on capital gains and dividends will jumpstart investment in the economy by lowering the cost of capital.

As for corporate taxes, Huntsman proposes lowering rates from 35 to 25 percent. He also suggests a tax holiday for corporate profits earned overseas, which he says will he says will make $400 billion and $600 billion available to companies to make capital investments. Huntsman then moved to regulatory reform, where he called attention to the National Labor Relations Board’s attempt to block a new Boeing plant in South Carolina. ” If elected, I will immediately instruct the NLRB to stop pursuing this politically motivated attack on free enterprise, and if they fail to do so I will replace them,” he said.

Huntsman also plans to repeal the extensive set of financial industry regulations that comprise the Dodd-Frank Act. “Rather than true financial reform, the American people were handed a 1600 page monstrosity that gives unelected bureaucrats unprecedented and unreviewable power over our financial system,” Huntsman said. “Another fundamental problem with Dodd-Frank is it perpetuates ‘too big to fail.’ Taxpayers must be protected from more bailouts. Yet we must reconsider whether increased competition between smaller entities is more efficient than a vast new regulatory apparatus that will almost certainly produce more bailouts.”

Huntsman concluded the regulatory reform portion of his speech by calling for a repeal of Obamacare, as well as “the EPA’s serious regulatory overreach” and “the FDA’s ridiculous approval process that increases development costs and unnecessarily delays new products.”

On energy independence, Huntsman plans to utilize domestic energy sources, “by expediting the approval process for safe, environmentally-sound projects – including our oil and gas reserves in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska and appropriate Federal lands and supporting the Keystone Pipeline Project in cooperation with Canada.” He would also call for the elimination of energy subsidies, making domestic energy sources such as natural gas and biofuels more viable.

On free trade, Huntsman said that previously established agreements with South Korea, Columbia, and Panama would become some of his top priorities as president. He also called for discussions with India to end the United States’ bilateral free trade agreement with the nation, “strengthening our relationship with a friend who will prove to be critical to America’s success in the 21st century.”

Huntsman concluded his speech by emphasizing his made-in-America values. ” It’s time for America to start building things again,” he said. “It’s time for America to start working again. It’s time for America to compete again. I believe with a new administration we can do just that.”

Mitt Romney's Job Plan Promises 11.5 Million Jobs in First Term

Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and one of the favorites to win the GOP Presidential nomination has reveled his jobs plan to the American people. In fact, Romney's speech on how to create jobs in America doesn't offer many new ideas but it does offer a plan that until now Congress has lacked the fortitude to offer anything and President Obama has been reluctant to offer anything until this week when he plans to give his own job's plan speech.

In fact, Romney's jobs plan can be summed up with having repeal regulations, tax cuts and sanctions to China. Now sanctioning China is the first time any Presidential candidate outside of GOP Presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman that tough talk has been directed toward China. Now Romney's plan is heavily lad with paring back tax rates which is some liberals eyes will not solve America's woes. Still Romney's plan is filled with conservative principles such as limiting government by reducing regulations while slashing taxes which is believed to help spur the American economy.

"The right answer for America is not to grow government or to believe that government can create jobs," Romney said upon releasing his plan. "It is instead to create the conditions that allow the private sector and entrepreneurs to create jobs and to grow our economy. Growth is the answer, not government."

Romney argues that lowering taxes is the swiftest route to job creation, which is why he laid out proposals to cut the top corporate income tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent. He also would make permanent the tax cuts enacted under George W. Bush and eliminate taxes on dividends, interest and capital gains for anyone making less than $200,000 a year.

The former Massachusetts governor also outlined trade policies that would be favorable to American businesses, including free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. He also promised to sanction China for keeping its currency artificially low, a move that he said would level a key trade imbalance. Labor Day is for the host/hostesses in restaurants who help us to be seated. It is for the waiter/waitress who put up with attitudes all day long but still serve with the utmost respect. Labor Day is for the maids who make up our beds in hotels and clean our rooms despite all the messes we make & do it in the most professional way possible. Labor Day is for the valets who park our cars and do it without leaving scratches or marks cause they treat the vehicle like its their own car.

Labor Day is for the worker who works 8-4, 9-5 and even grave yard shifts to bring home an ends meat and put food on the table to feed themselves as well as perhaps their family. Labor Day is not simply about marches, speeches, rallies and cookouts but its about thanking the least of us for their hard work at creating a better America and a better world. Labor Day is not for the factory worker but it is for the hotel worker, restaurant worker, the mall worker, the department store worker, the hotel worker, the casino worker, the cleaning worker, and even the parking attendant worker.

Labor Day is for every worker that gives it their all not just to make a dime but to make the lives of others better. Labor Day is for me and you. Labor Day might just seem like another holiday but it is really America's appreciation to the American worker who gives it their all 24/7 to impact the lives of others in a positive and influential way that benefits the makeup of America.

It is the labor of America that makes America what it is. From the day of our formation as nation, it is the hard working men and women who have paved the way for not just an equal wages for equal work, a minimum wage and a middle class in this nation but it is the working class that produces many of the goods and serves that we use and have today in our homes.

Labor Day is not just today but it is everyday that you patronize a hotel, a store, a restaurant or any place where you get service because it is those people who help create the backbone of what America is about, which hard work. Thus thank the working class everyday, appreciate those workers who show you respect and generosity despite the attitudes from some from customers. Last but not last, don't think Labor Day is just another holiday because its not a hallmark holiday or just a family gathering affair, its an appreciation of America's hard working class.

Now by viewing the above ad and reading the caption, you would think that the former Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick was a Republican but he was in fact a Democrat. So why in the world is the Michigan Democratic Party running a political ad showing Kwame Kilpatrick in order to attack a Republican running for Attorney General, leaves me clueless. If the Michigan Democratic Party really wants to talk about corruption and who's protecting corrupt politicians, I don't remember anyone from the Michigan Democratic Party asking Mayor Kilpatrick to step down. In fact, I don't remember the candidate running for Attorney General on the Democratic ticket saying anything about Kilpatrick either.

Now I'm not defending Bill Schuette because I could care less if he wins or loses but ads like this one are misleading and dishonest in terms of acting as if Kwame Kilpatrick is a Republican who Schuette protected but not only was Kilpatrick protected by Republicans, he was protected by Democrats as well because I don't remember any vocal Democrats asking Kilpatrick to step down unless they wanted his mayoral seat or they wanted his mom's congressional seat. Therefore, it amazes me that the Michigan Democratic Party wants to run an ad portraying Kilpatrick when metro Detroit and the rest of the state is trying to put the name Kilpatrick in the rearview mirror.

This is just politics as usual and Mark Brewer and the Michigan Democratic Party needs apologize to the voters of Detroit for reminding us of Kilpatrick when its bad enough the news media tries to do it as much as they can. My state won't be right until we get rid of all corrupt politicians regardless of their party affiliation and until public officials call each other when they are doing wrong not just because they see an opportunity to get a higher seat in office. In a self-governing society, the only bulwark against the power of the state is the consent of the governed, and regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent.

An unchecked executive, a compliant legislature, and an overreaching judiciary have combined to thwart the will of the people and overturn their votes and their values, striking down long-standing laws and institutions and scorning the deepest beliefs of the American people.

An arrogant and out-of-touch ruling class of a few makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Rising joblessness, crushing debt, and a polarizing political environment are fraying the bonds among our people and blurring our sense of national purpose.

Like free peoples of the past, our citizens refuse to accommodate a government that believes it can replace the will of the people with its own. The American people are speaking out, demanding that we realign our country's compass with its founding principles and apply those principles to solve our common problems for the common good.

The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated.

With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America.

We pledge to honor the Constitution as constructed by its framers and honor the original intent of those precepts that have been consistently ignored -- particularly the Tenth Amendment, which grants that all powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

President Obama is trying to get out the vote for Democrats with just six weeks to go. President Obama is telling about all the accomplishments and achievements that have been made under his administration while at the same time trying to get many voters who voted for him in 2008 to turn back out in 2010 to vote for Democrats. So let's see if this patch works. For me, it doesn't inspire me but it might inspire others to vote for Democrats. More and more Democrats are turning their backs on their party's leadership and joining Republicans in opposing any tax hikes during a recession. Senate Republicans agree with the American people that raising taxes during a recession would further damage our economy.

It is truly interesting how many Democrats agree with Republicans that the Bush tax cuts should remain as is instead of what President Obama is proposing in terms of taxes going up for those making $200,000 or more.

As a soon be member of the military, I say to our Congress particularly our Senators to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Policy of our military. No one cares if someone is openly gay or not on the battlefield, all one cares about is can they shot and protect our country. If gays want to openly serve in our military they should be allowed. Not allowing someone to serve in our armed forces because they are gay is not right and its discriminatory.

President Obama addresses the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and tells Black leaders they must motivate the African American base to turn this November. Even in 2008, while all other ethnic groups voted in larger numbers than previous Presidential elections or any election, the African American voter base had minimal gains in terms of turn out. Then if you compare it to voter turnout in terms of various voting groups, it was even more dismal. Therefore, how can anyone expect the African American vote to be any different or more impressive than it was in 2008 with no Barack Obama on the ballot. So as November approaches, nationally, I would be shocked if African American voted at about 30% considering how we didn't even vote at 50% in 2008 for the first African American President in our nation's history.

President Obama is right to a degree but it is not just Republicans who are benefitting from the corporate power money grab because many Democrats have benefitted as well. In fact President Obama as than candidate Obama benefitted from Corporate America to a degree. Corporate money has always existed in American politics for some time now and the Citizens United case just makes the money flow more easy so independent agencies and watchdog groups can track how money is being given and spent more easier than they could before. Corporate America has always use trickery to spend money on various elections but now they could do it upfront for the American people to see first hand who is giving what and spending what.

So as the 2010 midterm elections approach, I watch with excitement to see how much corporate money will be spent to get Republicans and Democrats elected to office.
